Looking back, looking forward

Chuck Freedman and ME!

2009 has been the best year of my professional career. In 2009, my name has become known within the Flash Platform community and I couldn’t be more humbled. This post is not a show piece by any means. This is merely a personal reflection and public thank you to all who have helped me this year. I'm listening. Go on…

My 2¢ on Microsoft Expression Blend

BlendBanner
I’m going to preface this post with a few things. First, I am not a closet Silverlight developer. I’m also not a firestarter. With regards to some recent talk about whether or not Microsoft’s presence should be allowed at Flash conferences, I have no involvement or say. I don’t want to start an Adobe vs Microsoft flame war, because honestly, it’s played out already, and I’ll leave that up to the tech tabloids. I am however, a developer and a UX designer, which means that I love thinking of ways to make everything better, more structured, and more usable. That includes IDEs I work in, but also IDEs I’m not working in. I'm listening. Go on…

The Typography of My Flash Builder

MXML_ColoredCode

Awhile back, I posted about the Typography of my ActionScript. At the time, I had no idea there was real support for changing editor colors in Eclipse. Since the public beta 2 of Flash Builder 4 at announced at MAX, I’m happy to report that this has finally changed! As far as I know, the support is added in Eclipse 3.4,  but don’t hold me to that. I actually stumbled across these settings by accident in the Flash Builder preferences. Right now these options are spread out between the Flash Builder syntax coloring preferences and the default Eclipse editor settings in a few places. It can be kind of confusing, but that’s what I am aiming to help you avoid having to deal with. I'm listening. Go on…

I’m speaking at Flash and the City!

FATC_banner
I confirmed with Elad Elrom earlier today that I have been added to the speakers list for the Flash and the City conference in New York City, May 14–16, 2010! Have you seen this speaker list?!  Take a minute, and look at it. The people on this list are some of the people who literally built our industry and the Flash community. And now, I am blessed enough to share a podium with the likes of such Flash greatness. I still can’t believe it. GIGANTIC thanks goes to Elad and Jesse Freeman (a.k.a The Flash Bum) for putting together an absolutely elite list of speakers and event. Somebody pinch me! [Ed. note: Don’t actually pinch me, I bruise easily :) ]
